Interests
Diversity
One of the side-effects of so many sites and services that let us filter and target the things we read is that it can narrow our view too far. We become like primitive villagers, unable to interact with anything outside our immediate sphere of interests. I want to build services that find clever ways to encourage an expanded, open view that includes diverse voices, while continuing the positive effects of filtering.
Access
I believe that technology is too important and affects too much of our lives to let tools like programming and web design remain only accessible to small groups. Projects like Hackety Hack want to give all kids an engaging way to write code, to encourage the next generation of developers. This is only a start. I want to work on things that actively encourage all people, children and adults alike, to be creators rather than consumers of technology.
Connectivity
Cell phones, wifi, and even home broadband are changing our relationship to information stores and to each other. We rely on Google's ability to find things again rather than writing them down. Suddenly, with no requirement to be at home first or have print materials such as a phone book at hand, we can locate an all-night diner within ten miles and ask in one broadcast message if our friends would like to come along. Twitter and other services ask, "Does constant connectivity allow new tools, with new and interesting outcomes?" I want to find more ways to ask that question, and watch what the result might be.

Summaries elsewhere
For an account of past employment, see my LinkedIn profile. I have a list of other things I've worked on at ClaimID.
Specific areas of interest
Programming: I've been working with Ruby and Rails for over a year, including several months as the project lead for a multi-user collaboration and networking site called 30Elm.com. I've also used Perl and C/C++ in the past. My strongest domain knowledge is in geographic tools and XML-based syndication.
Project management: I am very good at breaking big things into bite size pieces and figuring out how to get them done.
Design (for the web): I've been writing HTML for over ten years, and create standards-compliant XHTML and CSS layouts. I also have some experience with AJAX, including use of the Google Maps API and the script.aculo.us library. My most recent projects are this site (lifeofaudrey.com) and yogsnotebook.com.
Design (for print): I use InDesign to create the layout for each issue of Yog's Notebook. I've also done some book layout editing work.
Photography: my best shots are on Flickr. I've also started experimenting with video and animation, which you can find on Vimeo.
Writing: I blog about all sorts of things. I also have extensive experience writing business communications.
Knitting, sewing, and other fiber arts: I enjoy doing custom garment design, working across a large range of techniques. One of my sweater patterns will be appearing in a forthcoming book (Spring 2008). Examples of my work can be found in my "things I made" photo set and my shop on Etsy.
